Jets to be very active in NFL offseason

The New York Jets are planning to be very active in the offseason.

New York will have more than $100million in cap space after 2018, according to New Jersey Advance Media.

General manager Mike Maccagnan said on Thursday the team are hoping to sign impact free agents.

“This is an offseason we feel really good about,” Maccagnan said. “We’ve done a lot of work already and we’re going to do a lot more work on the pro free agency. But I think there is definitely an opportunity – not only to keep some of our own good, young players that are going to be free agents – but also to add some players at key positions going forward.

“Right now, we think there are a lot of good, young players in the market, potentially, for next year. And we feel pretty well situated with our salary cap standpoint.”

Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has been impressive at times during his rookie season. He has completed 55.2 per cent of his passes and thrown 11 touchdowns, along with 10 interceptions, during New York’s 3-5 start.

Maccagnan said the Jets will explore adding weapons around Darnold as well as on the defensive side of the ball.

“I think we have a lot of things in place that – with a successful offseason – we could be in a position to, in our mind, really springboard this thing forward,” Maccagnan said.

The Jets will face the Miami Dolphins in week nine on Sunday.
